The Evolution of Sleep Testing with Yale Professor Dr. Meir Kryger

“It used to be thought that sleep was a period where nothing can go wrong. It’s restful. We now know that’s not true. And we keep on learning new things, over and over again, about what we need to pay attention to during sleep.”

Medical Advisor at Dormotech, Dr. Meir Kryger

He has been in #sleepmedicine since 1974. He ran one of the first sleep studies of a breathing disorder in North America. He is chief editor of Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine, the field’s reference text, and a past president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

We sat down with him to talk through 50 years of sleep science. How sleep apnea went from being treated with a tracheostomy, to CPAP in 1981, to the 1993 study that showed it was common, not rare. How the field learned it affects women and children, not just middle-aged men. Where diagnostics goes next.
